Innocence
Directed and written by Mamoru Oshii
Rated M
“With this beautiful, thought-provoking, adrenaline-fuelled film, Oshii heralds a truly post-human era in which all forms of "life" deserve our respect.” – Sharon Mizota, PopMatters
In the year 2032, where most humans have been fitted with cybernetic parts, a police lieutenant is called in to investigate a murder case where the main suspect is a “gynoid” – a sex doll that has attained consciousness and gone rogue.
This “stand-alone sequel” – a film connected plot-wise to the original Ghost in the Shell but able to be seen out-of-sequence – is just as structurally creative, philosophically searching and action-packed as we’ve come to expect from Mamoru Oshii.
