Battalion parade ordered for 2 p.m. Our first taste of the “Khamseen” [khamsin]. It was a cold breezy morning. The wind increased and the dirt began to rise. By 9 a.m. one could not see the next row of tents. After standing by for an hour all hope of doing any work was abandoned and we stayed in our tents and growled. Everything soon became absolutely yellow. The dust storm continued till after sundown when a good heavy shower once more made life bearable.
