Friday 19th February 1915
We learnt today officially and much to our disgust that we had been moved from Tewfik on account of Friday night’s incident. Our whole conduct of course at Tewfik has in addition been most vilely blackened by irresponsible rumours so that to the other Coy’s in the Regiment nothing can be too outrageous to believe of us. However we hope to live down our disgrace, and as it touches the men most closely one may hope for their co-operation in recovering our lost reputation. A platoon from Otago in Reserve came over to help us to dig and were of material assistance.
