This is indeed the blackest day for the lads and the few that have survived must have thought darkly about all that gung-ho enthusiasm the previous year at the Palmerston North race-course before the start of the Grand Adventure, and the reality of meeting up with Johnny Turk in force, instead of the strays they guarded at Suez Canal.
Having followed their adventures on an almost daily basis to date, these raw numbers now mean so much more than numbers.
This attack and its repulse must have had an incredible impact on Whanganui when the news got back. It might be interesting to post Wanganui Chronicle news items about this for the weeks that follow, as well?

Hi Jeff
Thanks for making the suggestion about posting news items from our local newspapers on the Chunuk Bair attack. We are working on making them available to everyone and they should be ready soon.
Kind regards
Gillian

This also spurred me on to do something I’d been thinking about for a while. I’ve put together a short video montage which can be seen here as well as on YouTube.
