Spent day in kit inspections & outfitting by Regt tailor & bootmaker.

Moved off at 12.30 pm & entrained at Steenwerck. Detrained at Hazebrouck. Marched to St Marie Capelle. Good billets though rather scattered.

Moved at 7 am into De Seule area. Spent day cleaning up. Orders to move back to rest area.

In Ploegsteert. Heavy shelling mostly in Red Lodge & Hyde Park corners. Much gas shell.

Still in Ploegsteert. Working parties still unable to work at night. Shelling back areas ceases at 3.30 am. Parties go out then & work till 9 am about which time the old Hun opens up again.

Sleeping all day. All working parties abandoned owing to gas shell bombardment continuing.

Warned to be ready for relief by 1/W.I.B. Relieved by 1st West Coast Coy. Moved out through the heaviest gas shell bombardment that has been known in France. Coy took 5 hours to do 2 miles & had respirators on practically all the time. Three platoons in the Catacombs & 1 in the Canadian tunnel [...]

Still in support. Three platoons of Taranaki Coy went over to La Basse Ville. Entirely successful. Very heavy counter barrage.

Quiet day in support line.  Two platoon patrols had brush with enemy in La Basse Ville. Our people driven off. Casualties 1 killed 18 wounded 1 missing. Severe casualties inflicted on enemy.
