About

This World War One diary is the Company diary of the 7th Wellington West Coast Company serving with the Wellington Infantry Battalion in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

Many of the men serving in the Company came from the Wanganui district.

The diary is a detailed account of their training, and their journey from New Zealand to Alexandria in Egypt, and finally to Gallipoli.  It covers the period from August 1914 to April 1915.

Wanganui District Library is proud to present this incredible legacy of World War One to the world.  Each day the matching diary entry from 95 years ago will be posted on the site.  You can search the previous entries and make comments on their story.

The original copy of the diary is part of the Lovegrove Papers in the archive collection of Wanganui District Library.  For more information on this collection please contact the Heritage Services team at ww1@wanganuilibrary.com
