We remained at the wharf until 5 p.m. when we too[?] off hawsers and pulled out into the stream. The officer commanding Japanese and British warships with Hon Allen were guests of G.O.C to dinner. We picked up another man H Price who reported on board at midnight and which brought our strength up to full establishment.

Orders received from Headquarters for final embarkation. In the morning General Leave was granted. Two fresh men, Fisher and Davison, reported to fill vacancies caused by Brookes going home and Shiel becoming medically unfit. At 3 p.m. all transports save the Maunganui pulled out into the stream – a great crowd assembling to see them off. The Maunganui remained at the wharf and leave was granted to a few for the night.

A day at Newtown and Miramar – outpost work. O.C. engaged at defence stores getting equipment. H.M.S. Minotaur and Abouki arrived in the stream. A great sight.

A great church parade in the Town Hall marked by frantic excitement on the part of the staff endeavouring to get the troops seated in time. The service passed off successfully and the day being beautifully fine we went to our various friends for what we seemed to know would be about our last Sunday in New Zealand.

The Regiment marched with the division to Lower Hutt for inspection by the G.O.C. A vile day of wind and dust and the most uncomfortable time one could have. We were glad to get back to our cabins out of the wind and stones. No one fell out on the march which was done in good time. Capt. Cameron rejoined the company in place of Capt Watson struck off as medically unfit.

Our 2^nd day at Karori. Very hard work in getting over the hills. Regiment in attack.
