We sailed from Alexandria for Marseilles. We had an uneventful trip across, although only the Ships Officers knew that a Submarine was within 6 miles of us at one stage of our voyage. We arrived at Marseilles on Saturday[sic] evening 15th April.

We arrived at Alexandria at 0730 & embarked on the Llandovery Castle.

The Battalion entrained at Moascar at 2345 in cattle & open trucks en route for Alexandria.
Lt Treadwell & 1 man to Battn. H.Qrs. 14 men to 2nd N.Z.T.B. 2 men posted to Coy. also Lt Turnbull attached. 2 men to Hosp. leaving strength at 5 Officers 166 O.Rs.
Huntsgreen arrives at Alexandria & anchors in stream.
Christmas Day. Huntsgreen [troopship] left Lemnos for Alexandria.
Entrained at 2 a.m. at Palais Kubbeh. Going by train to Alexandria and thence on transport Achaia which went into Stream at 4 p.m.
Arrived at Alexandria and berthed about 7a.m. Everyone excited at the prospect of early disembarkation. Other units on ship disembark. Cargo discharging started. Our Coy supply all fatigues. Alexandria a great port but appliances not equal to Wellington. Company worked very hard. No leave. Men rather grumble but Orvieto beer has a quieting effect. Great [...]
Remained at Port Said till 5p.m. Officers allowed ashore. A dirty town but interesting. Sailed at 5p.m. for Alexandria. Everyone packing up.
A much cooler day. Wind cold. Everybody putting on winter clothes. Arrived Suez at 5 p.m. Received our orders to disembark at Alexandria. Started up the Canal at 7 p.m. A glorious sunset.
